Embodied Processing
The modality of Therapeutic Somatic Coaching I practice is called Embodied Processing
Below is a short video by the teacher and founder of EP describing what a typical session might look like:
Embodied Processing may help you if you are struggling with the following:
Self-esteem issues/ Eating disorder recovery
Body shame/ Anxiety/Depression
Emotional Disconnect/Self-Sabotage Tendencies
Emotional numbness/ Fight/Flight Tendencies
Stress Regulation
Safety and Nervous System Regulation
Physical aches/pains
What is NOT Embodied Processing?
Embodied Processing is NOT talk therapy. It is a body-based approach to healing, understanding that the body holds onto old patterns, belief systems, traumas, and very old conditioning.
By gently guiding you to become more aware, conscious, and feeling into your body, you can come to a place of trust, ease, and compassion towards yourself and be more comfortable with those parts that you may not have given attention to or have resisted feeling.
While your story and interpretation of it are important, in your somatic session, I will keep guiding you back to your body, noticing how those thoughts are landing in your physical body.
If we find ourselves mostly in our minds and thoughts, we often don’t realize how disconnected we are from our felt sense and our stored emotions, which are often uncomfortable to feel.
Staying in our minds and thoughts can, in many ways, “feel safer”. When we can allow ourselves to finally feel the stored/held emotions that may have been living in our bodies for a very long time, (as expressing them at the time of the event may not have been safe or convenient), the emotions and energy charge behind them can finally run their course to completion, and free you, both physically and emotionally.
What is included in a session?
Sessions can include a combination of grounding/resourcing exercises, breath awareness, body awareness, working with triggers, and guided movement practice.
Our sessions will be largely experimental, exploring the process as we go along. You are welcome to arrive with specific issues you would like to work on.
I will also give you tools and practices to be able to utilize in between sessions. Retraining and befriending the nervous system takes time, and like any new habit, takes some effort by way of practice, to reach your goals for healing.
My goal is to be a supportive and safe facilitator, and help you befriend your body, establish safety, and develop or regain trust in yourself, which can benefit not only your nervous system but also your overall health and related symptoms.
How many sessions will you need?
Your need for sessions will depend on what lies within you and how long it’s been there, as well as how “safe” you feel to begin to bring them to the surface.
Issues related to developmental trauma experiences can take some time to soften and befriend, so, in essence, it depends on what you are coming in with.
Your intuition and sense of safety in your body will guide you in how much support you need. You are welcome to continue sessions as long as you need to feel at home and secure in your body.
This type of deep inner nervous system work isn’t about “fixing” one problem; it’s more about learning the skills to meet all our pain and triggers in a more manageable, safer way.
I offer different options for sessions below, depending on your needs, with the understanding that more chronic, deeper-rooted issues will usually require more time/sessions and support to soften and unfold.
